Community Hub
Queen Victoria Market

Location: Melbourne
Developer: PDG
Architect: Six Degrees

A cornerstone of the Queen Victoria Market (QVM) redevelopment the Munro site was the subject of a design competition run by the City of Melbourne. The competition was won by PDG Corporation in conjunction with Ark Resources as ESD consultant and 6 Degrees as architect for the Community Hub building, which will be owned and operated by the City.

In combination with the proposed Munro tower podium component of the scheme the design creates a vibrant new laneway linking Therry Street to Blender Lane.

The development includes 4 levels of basement parking for the adjacent QVM market redevelopment. The 6-storey community hub retains the heritage façade of the Munro Hotel and will comprise:

  • City Rooms for hosting public events
  • Childcare centre
  • Family services, council offices
  • Community kitchen
  • Rooftop terraces

The building will incorporate a prominent vertical solar photovoltaic screen array.

This building will be one of the first in Australia to gain WELL building certification, an internationally-recognised health and well-being benchmark. This building is also targeting a 5 star Green Star Design & As-Built certification.

Construction of Phase 1 of the development will commence in 2018.
